Metamorphoun

The sculpture Metamorphoun was made for ‘T Klein Laar commissioned by KunstLoc Brabant with the aim of creating a work that contributes to the encounter between visitors and artists of ‘t klein Laar, a place that used to be a farm but is now making a transition to a place for makers and education with great knowledge about nature. The base of the artwork consists of willow branches, surrounded by a layer of pulp of nettle and recycled cardboard and a finish of clay soil with lime. It was a challenge for me to create this work, because I wanted to create sustainable work with only natural materials. By working with location-specific material, the work gets an extra narrative layer that tells a lot about the place. For example, the nettle is not only a plant that flourishes in CO2-rich places, but it is also a host for butterflies and you can extract color from it that can be processed as pigment in paint. The willow is a future-proof plant that can withstand the increasingly moist soil and, in addition to dyes, also has medicinal powers. The clay that comes from the ground here has been used as a building material for a long time and can be seen in ‘t Klein Laar, where the interior walls have a special color gradient due to the baked and unbaked clay.
