Allemanszaken
Collaboration with Fenna KootFor Fenna and Emmie, “beachcombing” during their residency at Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) has become an artistic method for unraveling the island’s identity. They collect not only physical materials but also the social experiences they gained at the Capriles Clinic and the IBB. In their work, they explore how the mental landscape is interwoven with the island’s physical environment.Their observations translate into sculptures of (found) objects that explore the tension between private and public, between reality and desire. This has resulted in a collage-like installation, constructed from fragments they encountered along the way. Thus, a breathy sound from a rock merges with a speaker found by the roadside. A piece of cloth washed ashore was given a voice through a text from the clinic, and building materials from a resort form the backbone of a new object. ‘Allemanszaken’ is a reference to Everyone’s Business: matters that concern us all, thereby simultaneously raising questions about ownership and responsibility.
